I was talkling to a friend at MIT a couple years back discussing what he wanted to do after graduating. He said he didn’t want to work on bottom line problems but preferred top line problems because organizations invested more in those kinds of poroblems. We got into a discussion about which ones mattered more, what being a builder meant to each of us, and why.
This note is about the thoughts I have that were precipitated by that conversation.
I think there are two kinds of builders, the ones pushing us forward and the ones pulling us up.
